Venice, Italy

My Cruise

Rob and I arrived in Venice the day before our cruise. I wish I could say it was magical, but it was not. It took us 3 hours by Vaporetto and walking to get to our hotel (not fun with 2 weeks of luggage!). It took over 2 hours for the waiter to give us our check. I understand Europeans eat slow and enjoy a long meal, but we were long done and it was pretty obvious. We then found out that you cannot eat an ice cream at a table since those tables are for people who want to buy ice cream from the waiter (for 4 extra Euros!). THEN, we tried to get a bottle of Prosecco at a restaurant and the host was upset that we didn't want to eat dinner. The restaurant was empty, you would think they would take any purchase they could. They ripped our silverware off our table and had every waiter come over and tell us we should have known to order a meal. This was just our first day!

The second day, we say a sign that said "Dear Tourist - No Touch" on a small fruit stand. I'm sorry, I guess I've never seen tomatoes before...I think I need to squeeze one.

After an $80, five minute water taxi ride, we were on the ship filled with other Americans we felt much better. The walking tour we took the next day took us to some churches and explained some Venetian history.

Hi Soleil. I am laughing so hard! What an unusual time you had. I went to Rome last year to visit my daughter who was in Italy for junior semester abroad. It was truly different, but not the treatment you had! Your story is so....funny. Will you ever go back? I enjoyed your blog!
